Tabata Something Else
>> Monday, December 29, 2008
I looked all over for a post where I talked about "tabatas" but I don't see it... this surprises me because I LLLLLLOOOOOVVVEEEE "TABATAS"!!! Love them. Love them.
Not sure if you heard, but I love tabatas.
So, what the hell is a tabata you might ask?
A tabata is 20 seconds of high intensity activity and 10 seconds of rest, then repeat. Repeat a lot.
Tonight I did running and strength training tabatas. It looked like this:
Run:12% incline at 6.0 mph - 8 times
Strength training:
Pull-ups (4 rounds at 13 level assist, 4 rounds at 14 level)
Reps = 12, 9, 8, 6, 8, 6, 8, 6 = 63
Push-ups (NOT modified!)
Reps = 14, 12, 10, 6, 9, 7, 7, 8 = 73
Sit-ups:
Reps = 13, 12, 12, 10, 10, 11, 11, 11 = 90
Squats:
Reps = 18, 18, 19, 17, 18, 17, 15, 20 = 142
As you can see, I did 63 pull-ups, 73 push-ups (NON MODIFIED!!), 90 sit-ups, and 142 squats for a total points of 368.
I did this same workout on November 30th, so almost one month ago and my total score was only 303! That means I did 65 more reps of the exercises this time around, which is a huge improvement!
And I'm glad to see that I improved in all exercises, not just one. Here's the comparison:
Pull-ups: increase from 57 to 63 or +6
Push-ups: increase from 52 to 73 or +21
Sit-ups: increase from 84 to 90 or +6
Squats: increase from 110 to 142 or +32
I honestly can't believe I did 73 push-ups...I'm pretty pumped about that.
Tonight's workout was one of my favorites. The running mixed with full body strengthening makes me feel great all over. I need to increase the speed on the hill run next time though because dare I say it was "easy." Okay, not easy, but not as hard as it should be.
I recommend this workout to anyone. It's a lot of fun but really tough too!
Only 18 days until the marathon!!!!
