The first week of marathon recovery is officially over, which means enough with the ice cream, junk food, trips to restaurants, and just general "I have an excuse to be lazy" lifestyle.
Oh, it was nice though, that's for sure. I pretty much allowed myself to eat whatever I felt like without guilt. I had ice cream twice and went out to eat multiple times over lunch with work people. I even went to In-N-Out Burger and had a burger and fries. (GASP!)
And while I may not have felt any binge-related guilt, I now realize the impact food has on our bodies... or I should say, my body. I had fun while it lasted but I'm glad it's over- my energy levels, productivity, and mood swings are much more controlled when I watch what I eat.
Today was my first day back on my Zone diet, which really just means I better manager my carbs, protein, and fat in every meal. Today was also my first workout since the marathon.
It was an easy 5K in 30:11 - 9:45/mile average which is quicker than normal for me but it felt good.
It wasn't until I was done that I noticed my left calf and foot bothering me. They were just tight, nothing major so I'll be working those out tonight with a golf ball and "the stick."
I'm going to do the spin class at the gym on Monday night, but I don't plan to go all out. It's been years since I've taken a spinning class and I remember them being tough so we'll see how it goes...

Nice job on the 5K and getting back into the swing of things. Feels good, doesn't it?! LOL.
Enjoy your spin session tonight. The nice thing about spin is you go at your own pace, so if anything just take the time to get your legs moving and enjoy it!
Happy Monday!
Have fun at spinning. It's kicked my ass many a time before. I've thought about taking one at my gym, but honestly, I'm a little intimidated.
I agree that eating junk messes with your whole body and mind to a degree! It was fun while it lasted though right? I had a one-day binge fest yesterday and I'm glad it was just one day.
Good luck at spin class! Sounds hard.
Nice job on the recovery 5K! Hope you enjoyed spinning. That's a good way to work different muscles that weren't affected by the marathon.
in case you dont' check older posts (I sometimes don't)...I commented on your post about future marathons....
