Taxes that is...

As an Accounting Supervisor, I should be good at taxes right?

Ugh... they are always so frustrating to me! We have all of our W-2's, so I thought I would start plugging in some numbers today...

I've been working on them for about 8 hours.

Our tax return this year is extremely complicated- the move to AZ, our home in Michigan which was a personal residence for part of the year and a rental another part of the year, we have FIVE W-2's between my husband and I, and two state returns to file.

I can't imagine how difficult taxes must be for non-accounting minded people. Is the IRS for real? Do they really think this is the best way to collet tax from people?

Argh. So annoyed.

Amen! Last year we have three state tax returns, 7 W2's, both of us were 'self-employed' for part of the year, and we moved.

This year, we bought a house, got married, and were still self-employed. Though, we're down to filing in two states (Travis's company can't grasp the concept of taking out Kansas taxes so we pay California all year) and only have 2 W2's, but we have student loan exemptions up the rear plus all the first time home buyer stuff. Oh yeah, and a bunch of medical stuff that wasn't paid for.

It's nuts. I hate tax season. This year we're paying someone.

That's why we got to an accountant. We haven't prepared our own taxes in 5 years. And ours are pretty straight forward, but I do remember the hassle of filing in two states the year we moved from MN to FL, especially figuring out the state taxes since FL has no state income tax and Mn does.

Good luck with everything!

You know I have issues with the IRS. The year where I had three W-2s and then had to file as an independent contractor almost caused me a breakdown. I feel for you. And honestly it makes me happy to know that even professionals such as yourself struggle with their taxes. Best of luck!
