No Cheat July, Killer WOD
>> Saturday, June 27, 2009
Today has been just about the perfect day. I feel like it had the perfect mix of relaxation and productivity.
First, we woke up and made pancakes for the first time in forever. Pancakes aren't exactly "approved" in the Zone diet, but we found a recipe that uses whole wheat pancake mix and protein powder. Instead of syrup, we used sugar free strawberry jelly. Starting the weekend with a new recipe that totally turned out better than expected is just awesome.
From there we went to see Transformers II. I bought Michael tickets for his birthday and we were pleasantly surprised. We went in with low expectations though b/c everyone we knew said it was cheesy and not very good. We really liked it though.
From there, we came home and cleaned for a couple of hours. And I don't mean "did the dishes and laundry" kind of cleaning. I cleaned out the downstairs closet (needed it!) and cleaned out the pantry (washed the shelves, etc). Then, I swept and mopped behind the fridge (totally disgusting), wiped down all of the kitchen cabinet doors, and cleaned the downstairs bathroom from top to bottom.
Then as if all of that wasn't enough, I wiped down all of the baseboards downstairs. They needed it really bad! While doing this, I also washed some of our doors where we tend to kick or scuff with our shoes.
You can imagine we totally needed a break after all of that, so we headed to the pool to relax. It was great. The weather today in AZ was110 degrees and the water temperature was refreshingly perfect!! I also curled up with Megan's book and read while soaking up the sun and Michael napped.
I came home and talked to one of my best friends Amy on the phone for a while and had a quick snack.
Then off to the gym we went for one of the hardest WOD's EVER! It took me 32:22 and it took Michael 32:50 which is way longer than our typical CrossFit workouts! Of course, I loved it though.
Here's what I did:
Right arm BARBELL push press - 25 lbs
Left arm BARBELL deadlift - 65 lbs
Run 1/2 mile
Left arm BARBELL push press - 25 lbs
Right arm BARBELL deadlift - 65 lbs
Run 1/2 mile
REPEAT!
I want to make sure you read that correctly- I wrote BARBELL not dumbbell. I used a really long bar ONE HANDED so I had to use all of the muscles in my arm to steady the weight. And when I did the deadlifts, the weight would tip forward or backward with even the slightest movement in my wrist or forearm. It was TOUGH!
The first two rounds, I did run 1/2 mile each. But I noticed a "twinge" in my hip the second round so I decided to do another form of cardio the 3rd and 4th rounds. It took me 4:03 to run both rounds of 1/2 mile sprints, so I subbed 4:03 on the stairmill during round 3 and 4:03 on the bike for round 4.
I was drenched with sweat. It was nasty. I mean awesome.
Now I'm at home getting ready to eat dinner (chicken & veggies, nothing exciting) and we rented Gran Torino on DVD for tonight.
Also, I randomly decided to make July a "NO CHEAT" month! For no reason in particular, I'm going to try and make it through the entire month without any cheating diet-wise. Normally I will allow myself "indulgences" every week or here and there and not really worry too much about it. I think I eat very healthy for the most part, so I don't beat myself up if at a work potluck I have some dessert. But, just for the sake of challenging myself, I want to go a full 31- days without those little indulgences.
It's going to be tough. There's going to be temptation. But I am going to do it!

ah but see....for me to cheat, I'd actually have to have rules or a plan of some sort. yeah....
:)
Sounds like you had a great day! Hope you liked Gran Torino; I thought that was a great movie.
What a great day all around! Good luck with the NO CHEAT. I think I might have to sit this one out. Baby steps for me! LOL.
Wow, one-handed barbell?! You are amazing!! Great job on the heavy-duty cleaning too. Doesn't it feel good?
You know what, I might just join your No Cheat July challenge! I'm trying to find a balance with eating healthy/not obsessing and I think this could be part of the solution.. not tracking my food but not eating ANY garbage. Hmmm, I won't commit 100% yet but it's a great idea. Thanks!! :)
