My Version of a WOD
>> Monday, September 14, 2009
This morning I did the planned WOD (see sidebar).
Prescribed was:
4 rounds-
100ft lunges w/ 2-30lb dumbbells
30 box jumps
20 weighted pull-ups (30lbs)
I can't do weighted pull-ups and I've really wanted to practice my strict pull-ups (without kipping), so here's what I did:
3 rounds-
100ft lunges w/ 2-15lb dumbbells
20 box jumps
10 strict pull-ups
Total time = 19:37
The pull-ups were by far the hardest part. The lunges, well, I felt like I could have done those all day. The box jumps were tough right after the lunges but after a while, my body adjusted and I did fine.
A "strict" pull-up is probably what you imagine when someone says a "pull-up." I can really only do the kipping kind where I use my body's momentum with a strict one here and there just to practice.
If I had done kipping pull-ups during today's WOD, I probably would have had a time around 10 or 11 minutes. It took me that long to do the strict pull-ups. I can only do one at a time, jump down, shake my arms, then do one more, repeat. And I have to confess that the last set of 10 was half kipping/half strict. I wouldn't say they were kipping pull-ups, but I had to swing my body a little or I wouldn't have been able to do them. Overall, I'm happy with it because I did more than I've ever done before and this is the only way to get better at them.
Until tomorrow,
Kelsalynn

Way to cross it off your list! Nice work!
For the record, I'm still highly impressed that you can do pull ups of any kind.
