Okay, wow

I wasn't expecting all of the questions about my hair! I'm glad you seem to like it though.

So here's the deal with the curls-

  • my hair is not naturally curly at all
  • it took my hair stylist about 30 minutes to do the curls
  • don't worry, she didn't have anyone after me and it was her idea!
  • you use a curling iron but not in the same way you normally would
  • you take a strand of your hair and wrap it around the barrel of the curling iron
  • hold it there for a minute, then release, spritz with a bit of hairspray
  • the position of the curling iron when you have your hair around it is horizontal, not vertical like when you put spiral curls in your hair
  • comb fingers through the roots of your hair only
  • I think it's fairly easy to accomplish, just time-consuming so you should probably try it
  • unless she does it again, I will probably never invest that kind of time on my hair
  • but it looked good right?
Don't ask me about the bullet points... some things just seem like a good idea.

Should anyone be interested, the best tutorial I've seen on getting this look can be found here:

I've tried it. It does take some time but worth it for a special occasion I'd say.

I've been able to get a similar effect by taking damp hair and spraying it with a texturizing spray then twirling sections of hair and pinning them with bobby pins. It takes about 10 min to put up and however long to dry (you can speed it up with a diffuser and blow dryer). I like to do that while I'm getting ready because there's less active time - I can just walk around the house with the pinned hair and do other things. It's not really practical for doing in the morning while getting ready for work - but it works great for a big night out because you can do it right out of the shower and leave them dry while you get dressed, put on makeup, etc.

Love the hiar, but unless it dries naturally into that state, I too would not invest the time to create it.
