Mini To-Do List

>> Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Personal To-Do List during the day:
1. Balance checkbook (the stupid thing doesn't balance so yes, I worked on it last night but decided I needed my 10-key calculator. If that statement doesn't make me a total nerd, I don't know what will.)
2. Pay rent (have to do snail mail at our new house which kind of stinks but oh well)
3. Pick up pics for frame (ordered them last night, will be ready to pick up over my lunch hour)

Personal To-Do tonight after work:
1. Practice the piano
2. Research things to do with Megan
3. Clean guest bathroom and bedroom (should be easy)
4. Dust, sweet, and mop ("delegate" some to Michael)

Again, I know there are more than 3 but that's what happens when you're busy getting ready to have guests, which by the way, I should tell you... my friend Megan is flying in on Friday until next Thursday so almost a full week. I have Monday-Wednesday off work while she's here, which is both exciting and completely stressing me out at the same time.

Work dictates my stress levels so much and it's something I need to work on. That's part of the reason why my weekly goal is to not work past 6:00. With most of next week off, I could work til midnight every night this week and still not have all of my work done, so what's the point of stressing myself out over it. Working late only makes me feel disorganized in my personal life and sways my work-life balance out of whack.

Good workout for tonight too- "Murph" which is a CrossFit workout that's probably #1 on my list of favorites!

So excited!

Until tomorrow,
Kelsalynn

We struggle with late nights too. We try to only do it during major projects and tight deadlines, which we try not to let happen, but it's tough. Our office (98% of the time) has a strict "lights out" policy at 5:15. It makes everyone happier and more productive during the day.

Travis read me a cool quote recently about late night workers, it was talking about hiring people and said something like, "you want to hire really busy people with stuff to do outside of work. People who work late don't work harder than those who only work 8 hours. The busy people just work smarter."

It's not totally true in all cases, but giving yourself a hard deadline does force you to work smart and be creative about how/what gets done.

So good for you for recognizing the importance of work/life balance and making it a priority.

P.S. Megan is way too common a name. I say everyone else named Megan should change their name so I don't get confused with other people.

I have not balanced my check book in years. YEARS. Are you twitching right now? I figure that's the kind of statement that makes your skin crawl.
