Awesome sucky awesome sucky

1. (AWESOME)I went and had my annual physical today. You may think this should be a "sucky" point b/c who really enjoys a pap, but not today my friends. I haven't been to the doc in YEARS. Tiss, tiss, I know. I was proud of myself for getting it done and following through and felt like a weight had been lifted from shoulders by getting this done. Therefore, it's made my "awesome" list b/c my doc was great and it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected.

2. (SUCKY) At my physical, I weighed a whopping 146 lbs. Now, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this but my immediate reaction is that this is a "sucky" point. Here's my thoughts on this:

  • This is the most I've weighed - EVER!
  • I haven't weighed myself in some time but I'm pretty sure I started the year at 135 or 138.
  • I'm still a size 6 and all my clothes fit the same as they did last year.
  • I've never been one to put much stock behind a number. But I don't want to simply ignore it either. I don't eat perfectly and I haven't been quite as consistent this year with working out.
  • Then there's the stress of my job which is probably the most likely culprit of the weight gain.
  • Finally, I'm lifting more this year than ever before and I certainly feel stronger. But 10 lbs of muscle doesn't seem likely.
What do you think?

3. (AWESOME) I was sooooo excited to do tonight's workout. I've done it twice before but both times I did assisted pull-ups. Tonight was going to be my first time doing kipping pull-ups and although I knew my time was going to suck, I was committed to doing it.
100 ft walking lunges, 21 pull-ups, 21 sit-ups
100 ft walking lunges, 18 pull-ups, 18 sit-ups
100 ft walking lunges, 15 pull-ups, 15 sit-ups
100 ft walking lunges, 12 pull-ups, 12 sit-ups
100 ft walking lunges, 9 pull-ups, 9 sit-ups
100 ft walking lunes, 6 pull-ups, 6 sit-ups

4. (SUCKY) Unfortunately, I made it through the first 3 rounds and 6 pull-ups in round 4 before totally busting open a blister on my palm.

So, I skipped the pull-ups and finished out with the lunges and sit-ups. I ended up doing:
144 Lunges
60 Pull-ups
81 Sit-ups
Time = 19 minutes and some change

The picture does not do the blister justice. It fricken hurts.

Until tomorrow,
Kelsalynn

hmmmmm- as far as your weight. that is interesting that it's so high. if you care at all, maybe you should start weighing yourself more regularly to see if that's really what you weigh- or if their scale sucks, or if you were retaining water or something. But I was also going to ask- do you like how you look? I realized that I like the "toned" look that I have in my muscles but I don't really want to get any bigger or bulkier- so I have been putting a lot more focus on running and body weight training (like my yoga) instead of "lifting" as often. I mean, if you think you are putting on muscle weight- it's just somethig ot think about. But I think you look great and you should give the scale the middle finger! :)

One weigh-in doesn't mean much since a person's weight can fluctuate by a few pounds on a daily basis. But like Alexis said, if you care, weigh yourself a few times on a regular basis under the same conditions and see what the numbers say.

But, good for you for going in and getting your check up! Those cooter check ups always seem like the worst when we anticipate them, but the reality is often far easier to deal with.

I think the weight thing is just something to keep an eye on. If you haven't changed sizes and your clothing isn't snug, then I'd say you're probably okay. Especially since you do weight workouts and you're so strong. However, I think keeping an eye on it is always a good idea because 10 lbs. can easily turn into 20 or 30 - which is a problem. So scale back with the treats and make sure you get in the workouts you need to feel healthy. Otherwise, who cares what that number says? I mean you're super strong/muscular and a size 6! Nothing to be worried or ashamed of! Also, every scale on the planet is different so it's not weird that your docs scale and your scale are different.

size 6! who care about the other number. As long as you feel good and like how the clothes fit, that is what matters.

Here's my 2 cents.

That's pretty much my exact weight, give or take. I'm 5'6'' and also wear size 6.

And you've seen my CrossFit "stats" on my blog.

From my perspective, I'm stronger than I've ever been, and more confident than ever because of that. I wouldn't trade that to weight 135 pounds.

My suggestion is to throw out the scale, and never look at it again. :) Instead, just ask yourself "do I feel good eating the foods I eat?" and "do my clothes still fit the same?" And most importantly, "how badass are my pullups these days?" :-D
