First 5K row
>> Sunday, August 22, 2010
I have to admit that my workouts have been pretty lame the past few days... in other words, they've been non-existent.
Friday night, we had poker at a coworker's house after work. I didn't win but Michael did! I got out toward the middle of the pack and proceeded to get drunk with everyone else who wasn't playing poker. Normally on Fridays, I'm a party-pooper and just want to be a hermit after a long week. I was surprised by how much energy I had and how much fun I had.
I don't think booze are part of the diet though :)
Yesterday, I didn't do anything besides go to my piano lesson in the morning. I even took a 3-hour nap in the afternoon and watched a heck of a lot of TV. Yup, I was a total bum but it was awesome.
Finally today I woke up revived. I did laundry, changed the sheets on our bed, and even worked out. Jam!
My husband bought this yesterday-
Our friend calls it "the holy grail of Crossfit"- a Concept II rower. He got it off Craiglist for pretty cheap!
I did my first 5K rowing. I don't think my time was great- 26:13 but considering my first mile was 9:00, I got faster as I went along and got warmed up. I got into a stride, cranked up my IPOD, and away I went. It was fun and a GREAT workout!
At least now I have a benchmark to build from going forward.
Until tomorrow,
Kelsalynn

yuck an erg!!! used to row on the varsity team at msu, and this thing was the devil, haha. but it was the best workout i've ever had by far!! i probably still have some of my old workouts somewhere if you want them!!
I have never used one of those before! Nice job on the 5K...
oh, and thanks for your kind words on my triathlon post.. I am still struggling with how it went, mostly because it will be a while not before I get to attempt another one...
I always thought rowing was fun when I used to occassionally use a machine at the gym.
hey there! still keeping up with reading your blog. Way to go on your 6-figure savings progress!
I attemped to join the rowing team in college but that didnt' last long. One thing that I will never forget, however, is that the coach stressed the correct form when rowing and I thought I'd share it with you so that you can get the most from your workout.
From the starting position (scrunched up toward the little digital readout thingy) you first straighten your legs - keeping your torso bent over your legs and arms straight.
Then you lean your torso back, still keeping your arms straight.
And the final movement is pulling in your arms.
So the motion goes: legs, back, arms. Legs, back, arms. Legs, back, arms.
Keep up the great work!
