Strength Lost

>> Sunday, February 26, 2012

It's no secret that my workout routine has been totally inconsistent for a while. Ever since I left my full-time job, my daily routine of going to work, working out, eating dinner, then sleeping has been completely forgotten. Starting a business means my life is no longer routine at all. I very much enjoy my life these days, except for the fact that I struggle with finding the time to workout.

And it's not that I don't have time...because I totally do. I just don't have time at the same time every day and I'm a routine person naturally. I tried penciling workouts into my schedule but that only lasted for about a week, then my follow-through sucked. I would pencil it in then let something else trump it.

All of this is to say that I've become weak. After all that time off, it was even harder to get back into it because I didn't know where to start. I didn't know what weight to choose and what time to shoot for. Ugh. This is why starting is the hardest part...

But I'm happy to report that I did a bunch of back squats tonight. I did 5 sets of 5 reps. Here are my weights:

95
95
105
105
105

Back in July, I did all sets at 125. I was hoping to get up that high today but decided once I hit 105 to just stay there. It was tough and I didn't want to push it since I'm pretty sure July was the last time I did back squats! Yikes! Oh my goodness, I can't believe I've waited that long...

So I essentially lost 20# in my back squat in that time. Wow.

And I'm sure I'll be super sore tomorrow. Boo! I hope to get back into working out regularly again. Wish me luck!

Right there with you girl! I've been practicing pullups consistently, but that is about it for a few months now. As of last week I'm back to "organized" CrossFit 2-3 days per week, and I know that is REALLY going to help me. My lower body strength and some other gymnastic skills have suffered, but half of that is just being rusty with our skills! Let's keep encouraging each other to get consistent again! :)

Good luck! And remember, balance. Exercise = balance.
