Wine is good

>> Wednesday, July 27, 2011

I couldn't think of a title for this post but in front of me is a glass of wine. It's yummy. I wanted you to know and I needed a title... VOILA!

We ended up buying a mister system for our garage and although I admit I was initially against the idea, I love it. It cools off the garage almost instantly- much quicker than the a/c unit we purchased. It doesn't use any electricity- only water and it feels terrific with the 115 degree heat.

Tonight's WOD was more strength. I'm not following any program to a t right now because my workouts have been extremely inconsistent. My goal is simply to workout and make it routine again.

Squat: 3 sets of 5 at 125#
Shoulder press: 5 sets of 3 at 60#
Deadlift: 1 set of 5 at 160#.

The squats felt wonderful- hard but I felt strong the whole time. I really focused on keeping my core tight and it helped a lot. The shoulder press was hard but I realized I wasn't resting long enough between the first couple of sets. Once I rested a bit longer, the final few sets were tough but okay. And the deadlifts were hard. Not super hard but it's been a while since I've done deadlifts.

I'm glad I worked out tonight. I'm also glad I remembered that I had a bottle of wine.

Well, I got another 4AM workout in this morning. It contained major suckitude.

I didn't go to bed until 11 last night so 4AM came pretty early. I've got a full day ahead of me so there will be no nap at any point.

My working sets (3 sets of 5 reps) today were:
Back squats 125
Bench press 75

Then I did 3 sets of pull-ups assisted with the blue bands: 7, 5, 4 reps

Every movement felt soooo hard and soooo heavy. I feel better now that I'm done though so I'm hoping the day flies by.

Like I said, I have a full day today. I have piano in the morning and another appointment after that. Then on Sunday, my in-laws are visiting for the afternoon so it will be a busy weekend as well.

Where have you been?

>> Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Okay, okay, I know it's been forever since my last blog post!

We were in Vegas for a few days, then drove straight to Michael's parents' new house (did I mention they were moving out to AZ?). We didn't go home in between the two mini-trips so we lived out of a suitcase for a week.

Vegas was fun & I loved surprising my dad. Unfortunately, we didn't walk away rich but that's okay. Michael's dad had shoulder surgery about 6 weeks ago so he can't really do much in the way of the move. We spent a lot of the time we were there unpacking boxes, building shelves, etc.

By the time Sunday came around, we were both totally exhausted and ready to be in our own bed.

With all the go-go-go lately, my workouts have been completely inconsistent. It's fricken hot here in AZ and of course, our garage A/C stopped working the week before we left for Vegas. We've called two different A/C repair people and neither of them returned our calls. I know they're busy, but don't they want the business? I'm totally stunned by this...

But alas! I woke up this morning and worked out at the horrific hour of 4AM! The only time I've ever been awake that early is because I either stayed up that late or I had a plane to catch for a vacation which is always a fun reason to be awake. It was still dark out so the temp wasn't bad and I just took it easy. It's been two weeks almost since my last workout (if you don't count walking up and down the Vegas strip or lifting tons of heavy boxes) so I didn't want to overdo it.

I did 3 sets of 5 back squats w/ the bar (45#).
I did 3 sets 5 shoulder presses w/ the bar.
I did 3 sets of 5 deadlifts at 65#.
I did 75 kettlebell swings.
I did a bunch of sit-ups and push-ups.
I did a bunch of stretches which felt amazing. I felt like I hadn't stretched in forever and my body was so stiff.

Overall, it was exactly what I needed. I just needed to get moving again and it felt terrific.

Update on the MI home- we've got it posted for re-rent but it's really unlikely that we'll be able to rent it. We're planning to put it on the market in September when our tenants move out. Please wish us luck.

Crazy busy

>> Friday, July 8, 2011

Hey everyone! I've totally been slacking on the workouts so I feel like I've got a whole lotta nuthin' to blog about these days! I worked out once earlier but did the same WOD from last week with the strength so I didn't really care to document it.

I have my budget done for the month but since it's July 8th, it seems a little late to post about it.

The Grand Canyon was great and on Tuesday we leave for Vegas. We're not even coming home after Vegas, we're driving straight to my husband's parent's new house out here. The movers picked up all of their stuff from Michigan today actually and they'll be out here next week. We're spending a few days at the new place with them helping them get things unpacked, put away, and set up for a life out in Arizona!

My Fiscal Fitness business has been better than good- it's been FANTASTIC! I've got so many appointments scheduled, so many referral partnerships that I've created, and overall I'm just so busy! Much busier than I ever anticipated I'd be this early on in starting my business. It's WONDERFUL! I'm seriously so happy and glad that I left my corporate job. There's no doubt in my mind right now that this was the right move.

We're still waiting to hear about the house in Michigan and what's going on with that but I'll keep you guys posted.

Tonight Michael and I are heading out for sushi and a movie. It's a date night! I'm so excited! Tomorrow I have piano and then a few appointments so it's going to be a busy day. What are your plans for this weekend?

Awesome camping weekend.

>> Monday, July 4, 2011

We had a great time at the Grand Canyon this past weekend. We originally planned to hike down to the bottom and back up in one day but those plans were squashed even before we left. Unfortunately, even northern Arizona is experiencing a heat advisory so instead of the normal 80 degrees at the canyon, it was a whopping 95 & as high as 115 at the bottom of the canyon. They were strongly advising hikers not to travel down into the canyon. It will have to be something that stays on our bucket list for now! We hiked a couple of miles down & back up and boy, was it ever hot!

Someday...

We also weren't allowed to make any fires due to the extreme dryness & heat we're experiencing. I was really disappointed since camping doesn't really seem complete without a campfire but it wasn't that bad actually. Michael and I hung out at the campsite, played some games, read our books, and listened to music. That's when we weren't site-seeing and hiking of course.

Here are some pictures from our weekend. I hope everyone else had a fabulous 4th of July!
