Crazy couple of weeks

>> Wednesday, October 26, 2011

I'm here! I'm here! So, like I said in my last post, I was going out of town. I didn't really say where and why because it was a surprise. My friend Amy from Chicago and I were flying into Philadelphia to surprise our other friend Lexi for her birthday. It was a wonderful vacation! Here are some pictures!

We took a tour of a bunch of wineries- it was SO MUCH FUN!

All the ladies at Winery Numero Uno!

Aren't we GORGEOUS!? :-P

Our "duck face". Obviously Lexi & Amy are pros... me? Not so much...

Our new puppy is doing pretty darn good. She's such an awesome addition to our family. Here's my hubby with the puppies in bed...so much for me having a spot in the bed!

And here's her cuddling with me during one of her many naps. When she sleeps, she has to be on you or next to you!

Let's see, there's so much more to tell you. Are you still reading?

Also while in Philadelphia, my friend Amy took some headshots for me. I'm not sure which one I like the best so I'll include a few! She is such an amazing photographer! Check out her website!

Which one is your favorite?

And I've worked out a few times but not consistently. Last week I had a really fun workout that was not planned at all. I was watching a friend's 10-month old daughter. The only time she was happy was if she was in her stroller so I took her for a jog. But when I came to a 4-foot wall, I did some wall jumps. Then I jogged some more til I reached a tennis court and I did a bunch of suicides. Then jogged some more and did a few more wall jumps. It was a lot of fun.

Today I did a quick WOD:
3 rounds of 10 overhead squats just with a PVC pipe, 15 box jumps, and 20 kettlebell swings.
It took me 8:21. It should have been a lot faster but I'm definitely feeling out of shape these days. I need to be better about working out consistently.

Best meal ever & Paleo Challenge update

>> Saturday, October 1, 2011

Yesterday was our 6-year anniversary! It's been a very easy, simple, and enjoyable six years and I couldn't ask for a more wonderful husband.

We went to a restaurant in Scottsdale called Posh. It's an improvisational restaurant. You get a "menu" which is essentially a list of ingredients. You cross off any you don't like (i.e. sweetbreads otherwise known as brains) and you write down any allergies you have. You can be as adventuresome as you choose- they have beef and chicken and fish but they have sweetbreads, kangaroo, alligator, etc.

They take your "menu" back to the cooks and based on your likes and dislikes, the cook chooses what you eat- they decide on the spot hence the "improv" part of the place. Your experience is never duplicated!

I have to tell you, I was nervous, but oh my word, it was the best meal I've ever had. Michael said the same thing and we had different food. And I ate KANGAROO! That's right! I didn't cross it off so I knew I could potentially get it. When they brought it to me I was scared but it was quite tasty. Everything was de-lish!

From there we went to a concert- Colin Hay which is the lead singer of Men at Work. It was a great concert- he is an amazing singer and his songs put you in a trance. He was also really funny and told a lot of stories and interacted with the crowd.

Our meal was as close to Paleo as you could get. I put down "no gluten" and "no dairy". There was definitely some sugar added to my dessert and maybe some of the other courses but I couldn't tell for certain. All the ingredients were so incredibly fresh, it was as close to paleo as you can get.

I did eat some cheese Wednesday night and Friday I had a couple new zits. So it's DEFINITELY the dairy that causes me to breakout. Otherwise, I've been really good at sticking to the paleo challenge.

I'm going away this coming weekend for 4 days though and I have a feeling my Paleo Challenge will be derailed! It's the last and final weekend of the challenge but of course, I'm going to be with a very special friend so it's going to be hard not to cheat. I don't want to be thinking about it all the time so hopefully I can strike some sort of balance.

Here's a picture of us from our date last night- Happy Anniversary to us! :)
